This month we signed a lease with Cascadia Eco-Modular. We are very Excited to see Cascadia Eco-Modular move to Skagit county where they will be in a large warehouse with easy access to I-5. This new location will allow them better access to the growing market in Whatcom County while still servicing the “bread and butter” counties, King and Pierce. It is no surprise that people throughout the United States are moving to Washington. The Puget Sound region is one of the few places in the world where you can start your day with a cup of coffee, go whale watching, visit a rainforest, hike through some old growth forest, visit an island or two, and cap off the day with some night skiing. I can’t imagine even the most dedicated person would actually be able to do all that in one day, but the variety of activities, ecosystems, and terrain is truly breathtaking to say the least.

Within the last decade we have seen large tech companies like amazon move office locations into the Pacific Northwest, bringing with them a large population of wealthy, soon to be Washington homeowners. At its peak in 2016, 68,000 more people moved to Washington than moved away. That vast increase has driven the need for housing even higher. The only way to keep up with these housing needs is to build more. More apartments, more condos, and most importantly, more homes. All this has to be done as fast as possible to keep up with demand. Modular manufacturing processes are a solution to this.

Companies like Cascadia Eco-Modular are able to design, construct, and fabricate homes off-site allowing foundation work to be done in parallel with the home itself. This can reduce the construction time by 50%. Not only that, but traditional “waste” can be upcycled or recycled into the next home, resulting in 90% less true “waste” from the home building process. With Washington projected to need 500,000 more homes by 2030, we will likely see a much larger presence in these Modular homes as opposed to traditional on-site construction that we’ve grown so accustomed to. We are excited to see this company grow.
