New Chapter for Prominent Fairhaven Corner & Historic Bus
Fairhaven is home to a variety of iconic landmarks, and few are as eye-catching as the bright red double-decker Fairhaven Village bus. This 96-year-old motor vehicle, which originated in 1920s London, was initially used for public transportation before being refurbished and brought to Fairhaven in 1973. Though it was intended to transport visitors around town, it was eventually parked at the corner of Harris Ave and 11th Street. Since then, the historic vehicle has hosted several successful businesses, including an espresso cart, a fish and chips restaurant, and most recently a taco shop.
Before the iconic red bus arrived, the prominent corner of Fairhaven already boasted its own rich history. It was once home to the town marshal’s office and a renowned domed tower known as the Blonden Block in the late 1800s. These structures were demolished in the 1950s and replaced with a community garden, which later became the site of a notable countercultural protest in the 1970s. Despite decades of changes and new occupants, the area remains a cherished spot for many Fairhaven residents.
Today, the Fairhaven Village bus and its historic corner are once again open to new business ventures. We eagerly anticipate seeing who will move in and add their name to the location’s vibrant history.
