Recently, Washington State removed the requirement for a notarized signature on leases with terms longer than a year. As of June 6, 2024, Washington state instituted Senate Bill 5840, which stated that commercial leases no longer need to be notarized. Prior to June 6, 2024, commercial leases in Washington state that lasted longer than one year had to be notarized in order to be valid. Washington now joins the majority of states that do not require a notarization of leases.
